Student Cross first started walking from London to Walsingham in 1948. We are a pilgrimage which involves eleven different groups, known as Legs, who walk from different parts of the country to Walsingham, carrying a cross.
Student Cross is a chance to celebrate Easter in a unique way, by living Holy Week in community, celebrating liturgy and tangibly walking with Christ towards the joy of the Resurrection.
Kind-hearted parishes provide food and accommodation along the way. Each Leg carries a large wooden cross as a witness to the people they pass. All the Legs meet up to celebrate the Paschal liturgies together over the Easter weekend, including a vibrant celebration after the Easter vigil Mass on Saturday evening and an Anglican service on the Sunday morning.
We are open to walkers of all ages and backgrounds and we have various ways of supporting pilgrims financially to be able to walk, through our registered charity the Student Cross Association.
Here is a testimony from one of our previous walkers, poignant because his experience in 1974 resonates so much with someone who walks today – it feels very special to be part of such a timeless experience.
