Yesterday, the Westminster Youth Ministry team went over to SPEC, to meet up with the new volunteer missionaries for this academic year. The main purpose of the visit was to give a presentation on Theology of the Body, but it was also an opportunity say hello and get to know the new recruits.
The SPEC team is smaller this year than previous years, due to the move to their new home at Waxwell Farm. This made for a more intimate setting for the presentation, in the library.
Rebekah and Christine, from the WYM team, were the presenters for the day, having drawn up a 60-slide interactive talk based on Saint John Paul II’s teaching on the theology of the body.
With help from the content of the Pure in Heart movement, which focuses on teaching young people about chastity and true love, Rebekah and Christine went through the basics and discussed with the SPEC team the themes around chastity, love and friendship.
The two girls, both former SPEC members, were very lively, down to earth and eager to get everyone involved. Using the SPEC team as volunteers and props for various examples during their presentation made for some funny situations; it was also a good way for the new volunteers to get to know each other better, having only recently arrived at SPEC.
After the presentation, we all had a much-needed lunch, chatted and looked around SPEC’s new home.
Waxwell Farm is a great location, with lovely architecture, and I’m sure the new SPEC team is going to have a great and rewarding time there!
