Assumption Volunteer opportunities 2015-16

Assumption Volunteers are offering six residential one-year placements, for people aged 20 and over, in a year of service and growth in a cross-cultural context.

Training begins 17-24 July, with departure in August. If interested, apply early as we process applications as they come in.


For two volunteers, aged 21 or more, as teachers of English to children aged 4 to 11 in a primary school in the village of Thelpara, Kerala, near the mountains. Also involved in sports, games, singing, dancing and computer. Accommodation, food and living allowance provided – female because living with the Indian Sisters of the Assumption. Rural and urban life experience – 7 months in Thelpara until the school year ends, short opportunity for travel and final 3 months in the city of Pune, near Mumbai, teaching English to the young sisters. Volunteers need a high level of maturity and be able to live simply both in an isolated village and on the outskirts of a city.


One or two volunteers (male or female) to assist the English teachers in a school of 500 children, one third disabled. Knowledge of English grammar, culture and conversational English. Willing to learn basic Lithuanian and get involved in all aspects of the school.


Two volunteers (male or female) to join Filipino volunteers in a year of service, willing to go anywhere in the Philippines and do anything though preferences taken into account. Work in schools, with disabled people, social projects, typhoon rehabilitation etc and live in community. Suit those just finished university who want a gap year in a faith context.
