World Youth Day is a truly remarkable experience of the worldwide Church. I still remember that feeling of looking around at the vigil sight in Krakow and struggling to comprehend how many people were there. Three million is over 33 times the capacity of Wembley Stadium.
But more than the numbers is the atmosphere. The joy, the energy, the sense of life that overtakes even in the midst of the general WYD struggles like long walks and carbonated water. For me, it was a huge sense of knowing the Church to be so alive, a time of renewed conversion and feeling the power of the Holy Spirit very much alive and active.
I learnt a lot in my time in Poland; about who I am and who God is. Some things I can put into words and some I am still unpacking. But as we turn now towards the next WYD I wonder what more God will be doing during these events. The theme of WYD Panama is ‘I am the servant of the Lord; Let it be done unto me according to your word’ (LK 1:38). These immortal words of trust, spoken by Our Lady, provide a great richness for us to dive into during World Youth Day.
We can offer bursaries of up to 50% off. Spaces are limited so do get in touch with the Westminster Youth Ministry team ASAP.
This calling to learn to make a fruitful ‘yes’ to the Lord, coupled alongside the timing of World Youth Day following on from the Synod on Youth and Vocational Calling in October in Rome, means that we will be present, with Pope Francis, as he address the world in a new chapter in our history. He will be addressing the youth of the world, and speaking to them about the reflections of the Synod, and reflections on how to imitate Our Lady more. It’s a truly remarkable time.
And you can still be a part of it! The diocesan youth ministry pilgrimage still has some spaces available for young adults aged between 18-35. We can now also offer the opportunity to apply for a bursary; we have been given some funds to help support young adults who are leaders in their community, or who would like to become one.
We want to invest in our young adults, who in turn will share what they have gained with their parish communities. We can offer bursaries of up to 50% off. Spaces are limited so do get in touch with the Westminster Youth Ministry team ASAP at: firstname.lastname@example.org
