Quick Overview

A creative activity where young people design a billboard expressing their positive traits and attributes in a non-threatening manner. A good activity for those with low self-esteem or have difficulty expressing themselves.

Supplies you’ll need

  • 1x Large sheet of paper for each person
  • Paint
  • Paint Brushes
  • Felt-tip Pens
  • Blue-tac or selo-tape

Prep

  • Divide up the resources so that they can be easily handed out.
  • Many prefer to do this activity on a table. Set these up if you need them.

How to run Bold Billboards

  • Before you hand out the resources, introduce the activity as a way for us to celebrate the positive traits and attributes God has imbued in us.
  • Give each of the young people a large piece of paper and access to the paint, pens and brushes they’ll need.
  • Instruct them that they must create a billboard that is big, bold and colourful. Explain that while they need to ensure it is full of colour, more important is that they fill it with words and images that show the positive traits/attributes of the person creating it.
  • The young people must try and highlight all their own unique, positive traits.
  • After about 30-40 minutes, or when everyone is done, ask the young people to explain their billboard to the rest of the group.
  • If there is room to do so, finish by hanging up the billboards on the wall to celebrate them.
  • You may like to have a discussion at the end to help them reflect on their experience. Here are some questions you may like to use:
    • Did anyone have any difficulty thinking of things to put on their billboard? If so, why?
    • How did you feel when others where looking at your billboard?
    • Why is important to be able to identify positive things about yourself?
    • Why is it important to be able to0 tell other people these things?
